SJ Week 9 – 1st Baptism (soon)

This was honestly such a fun week! Things are closing back up here a little bit due to a rise in COVID, but for now we are still able to get out a bit which is good! We are busy and working hard. This week, we had a lot of funny experiences and stuff.

We started off on a high note, we got a new car! It’s a rental because there aren’t enough mission cars for all of the missionaries, which means that it doesn’t have the little computer that tracks us and yells at us for basically anything we do wrong haha. So, we’ve been safe but it’s been fun skirting around. Everyone in the mission is jealous of us hahaha. Pretty crazy how excited four 18-20 year olds got over going 75 on the freeway haha. We were hurrying home one night and we were blessed with a miracle baptism opportunity thanks to the Nissan Altima 2019.

We got fed so much this week by members. We had a super good breakfast last Monday, and just about every day we had dinner. However, we got fed some bad tostadas on Tuesday. Me and Elder Kuttler both got pretty sick haha. The next day, we were feeling a little better and we were ready to start eating again and we walked into dinner with another family and they laid basically the exact same tostadas we ate for dinner the day before hahaha. I just stuck to rice and chips to play it safe.

During one of the dinners, we were eating with Bishop and our Ward Mission Leader and their families, and all of the sudden we heard this loud crash and we look over and see a pickaxe hanging out of the fence. Some kid had bashed through it and went off running haha. Oh San Jose, I love it here. Our ward mission leader went chasing after him but couldn’t catch him lol.

We’ve seen some crazy cars this week. There’s more Teslas here in Silicon Valley than almost any other car. Our Elders Quorum President loves cholo trucks and so he was showing us the hydraulics and everything with them. It was pretty crazy haha. We also saw a wrapped golden Prius and just tons of others.

A few weeks ago, we got a referral that I talked about from the Sisters at Temple Square named Jesus! The other Elders have continued teaching him, and this week he accepted a baptismal date for July 25th. He’s such a cool guy and we are all so excited for him. It’s been a busy week as a leader. I’m the only  one in our zone who was in a leadership position who was here last transfer, so I’ve had to do lots of teaching and explaining haha. But, I love it and it’s fulfilling. I’m grateful for the many opportunities to serve.

I’ve been reading a book recently called “Drawing on the Powers of Heaven”. It has helped me so much to continue growing and progressing as a disciple of Christ and as a missionary. The author, Grant Von Harrison, talks about the importance of controlling our mind in order to have spiritual power and receive sought-blessings from heaven. He makes a cool invitation in the book, saying “the next time you pray, see if you have the power and control over your mind sufficient to keep it from wandering during your attempt to communicate with the Lord.” I’ve noticed just how easy it is to let our minds wander. We need to be focused in order to show the Lord that we really are seeking the guidance of His Spirit.

I love you all and I’m so grateful for you. Thank you for your prayers and for everything you all do. I pray for you too! Let me know if there’s ever anything I can do to help any of you.

Here are some random photos from the past few weeks.
